The challenge for this Kitchen/Great Room space was the high vaulted ceilings in the Great Room abruptly dropped down to 9’ in the adjacent kitchen and nook making for an awkward transition. Our solution was to create a pair of stone veneered columns and a wood soffit over the island to define the kitchen space and add interest while still connecting to the Great Room. This unique design solution pulled the two spaces together with each retaining its own identity.
